What a touching tribute. Carrie Underwood took a moment to honor a late fan during her ACC Awards speech, giving a special shout-out to 10-year-old Isley Thibodeaux, who died in a tragic car accident just last week. So sad.
Carrie Underwood, 33, thanked the usuals in her American Country Countdown Awards winners’ speech on May 1, but she also made sure to give one fan a special mention. Isley Thibodeaux was sadly killed in a car accident on her way home from Carrie’s concert last week, and the singer was understandably affected by the awful tragedy.
After shouting out to all her fans, Carrie gave a specific thank you to Isley, letting her know that “this one’s for you.” She got noticeably choked up and a bit flustered as she made the special shout-out, and if you’re not familiar with this sad story, we’ll fill you in regarding why the thank you was so fitting, but upsetting.
Isley was on her way home from Carrie’s concert when an alleged drunk driver slammed into the car she was a passenger in. Although the 10-year-old was taken to the hospital, she sadly died after her arrival, and we can imagine that the news hit the “Heartbeat” singer especially hard.
The adorable Isley was only in 5th grade. The driver of the other car, Albert Sampy, has been charged with 3rd offense OWI, operating a vehicle under suspension, vehicle homicide and vehicular negligent injuring.
Despite the sad moment, it was a big night for Carrie — she took home the award for Female Vocalist of the Year and gave an epic performance of her new single “Church Bells.” We know she did Isley proud with this one and we’re so glad she took a moment to recognize the special fan who loved her so much!
