Jared Goff has been chosen by the Los Angeles Rams as the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. The Rams traded with the Tennessee Titans to get the first pick so they could acquire the quarterback from California. Jared is now a Ram!
Welcome to the NFL Jared Goff! On April 28th, 2016 at 8:16pm EST, the Los Angeles Rams chose the 6’4″, 21 year-old kid from the University of California, Berkeley. Details of his contract are yet to be hammered out but Jared was all smiles as he threw on a Rams hat and held up a new Rams jersey with his name on it. He is no longer a college kid. Jared is now a quarterback in the National Football League.
In front of a packed house, at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, Illinois, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called Jared’s name before any other available draftee. The crowd went nuts and Rams fans across the globe rejoiced. But no one was as happy as the Sociology major from Marin County, California. Jared was an absolute beast in college but how he will fair in the bigger, faster NFL is anyone’s guess. “I’m ready to go, I’m ready to make a difference,” Jared noted to the fans of Los Angeles, moments after joining the Rams.
It was not an easy thing for the Rams to get that first pick. The Rams played in St. Louis last season and were able to put together 7-9 record which would have placed them in the middle of the first round with the 15th pick. But the Rams are moving back to Los Angeles after a 22 years away and so they traded away the farm to the Tennessee Titans to acquire that first pick.
The Rams are hoping Jared is the key to a big season back in one of the largest markets in the country. Jared put up some amazing numbers at Cal. He completed 977 passes for over 12,000 yards in college. Jared threw 96 TD’s and with only 30 interceptions his overall QB rating for his 3 years behind center is 144. Jared has skills. Can he help get the Rams to the Super Bowl? Rams fans hope so!
