Millions of people around the world loved Prince, 57, but sadly, he didn’t have very much in the way of close relatives. Instead, the singer found a family in the Jehovah’s Witness community, of which he was officially a member since 2001. But who will be getting his $300 million fortune now that he’s gone?
The details of Prince’s will have not been revealed yet, but it’s been speculated that his money and massive estate at Paisley Park Studios might be left to the Jehovah’s Witness Church. He converted to the religion and has been a devout Jehovah’s Witness since 2001.
However, if there is no will, Minnesota Law states that the estate goes to the grandchildren, followed by parents and siblings if there are none. But Prince never had any children, and his parents are both dead, leaving few options, especially because he wasn’t close with his half-siblings.
The late singer did have one sister named Tyka Nelson, just two years younger than him. She actually joined fans who gathered outside Prince’s home after his death and reportedly told them, “He really loved you all.” It looks like we’ll have to wait until things are settled down to find out if Prince did have a will to direct his fortune. Prince was married twice throughout his too-short life, but both relationships ended in divorce. He wed Mayte Garcia in 1996, and two months later they found out they were having a baby. Sadly, their son, Boy Gregory, died just a week after his birth from a rare skull disorder, and Mayte miscarried their second child, tearing the marriage apart. Their marriage was annulled in 1999, and Prince was then married to Testolini Manuela from 2001-2006.
Police responded to a 911 call at Prince’s compound on April 21 and found him unresponsive in an elevator, but were unable to revive him. His autopsy was performed on April 22, but it could be weeks before we find out the results.
