Even though Prince’s autopsy was just completed, his cause of death still remains a mystery. His body will be released to his family later today, April 22, but results from the exam won’t be disclosed until toxicology results come back, and that could take several weeks.
After a four hour procedure, Prince’s autopsy has been completed. But unfortunately, the results will not be released for a while — sadly, it may even take several weeks for the singer’s family and fans to get some answers. Find out why!
TMZ revealed Prince’s autopsy was completed earlier today, April 22, but results won’t be released until toxicology results come back. “The four hour procedure started at 9 AM CDT Friday and Prince’s body will be released to his family later today,” a rep for the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Minnesota told the site. They’re “still collecting the singer’s medical records as well as family medical history to complete [the] investigation.”
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Prince died Thursday morning, April 21, after he was found unresponsive in an elevator in his Paisley Park home. A recent report claims drugs may have played a role in his death, as he allegedly overdosed on painkillers just days before his death.
As you’ll recall, Prince was on a flight April 15, when the plane made an emergency landing. A report claims he allegedly overdosed on Percocet, and the plane landed so he could be administered a “save shot,” which is commonly known to reverse the effects of an opiate-related overdose. He was later rushed to the hospital and then released just three hours later. Sadly, he died six days later.
