Forget about diamonds, a spray tan is actually a girl’s best friend! Need proof? Enter Kim Kardashian’s spray tan technician, who’s spilling his secrets on how to fake a slimmer, more toned appearance with a bit of the bronze. See his expert tips ahead, and get yourself to the tanning salon.
By now, it’s no secret that baking in the sun or hopping in a tanning bed are beyond bad for your skin — both health and appearance wise. But we all (celebrities included) still want a golden glow, and Kim Kardashian, 35, just brought us the insider secrets to not only looking like a bronzed beach babe but using your tan to tone up what the gym (or lack thereof) hasn’t quite been able to perfect.
We never see Kim without perfectly glowing skin, and on her site, she brought in her tanning expert, Jimmy Coco to share his best secrets. “It not only enhances her beautiful skin tone, but it enhances her muscle tone, also,” says Jimmy, who founded his mobile tanning company that boasts devoted celebrity clients like Kim, Kylie Jenner and the Victoria’s Secret models. With his own range of at-home tanning sprays, Jimmy created a quick tutorial on what exactly to ask for from your tanning technician for a Kim K-level glow.
Fake A Lifted Butt: To make your butt appear more lifted, minus the squats, Jimmy says to “Ask your technician to shade a half heart on each butt cheek.” Starting at the tailbone and shading downwards, Jimmy says you’ll get the illusion of a lifted butt by shading the outside of the heart shape darker than the inside.
Make It Look Natural: Jimmy says to lean forward slightly and have your tanning technician spray more color along your shoulders to get a more natural looking tan. “Since the sun is shining from above, it looks more natural to have more color over your shoulders,” he says.
Create Cleavage: Better than a push-up bra, Jimmy says your technician can easily create the illusion of cleavage by spraying the natural contours of your breast darker, leaving the top lighter.
Instant Tummy Tuck: To fake a more toned stomach, “I do a line from the sternum, all the way down, just past the belly button,” he says of his first step. Then, he goes back in with his spray tanning gun, working the mist horizontally along the waistline to make it appear slimmer.
Smooth Away Cellulite: If you have cellulite on your thighs, Jimmy says that it can be covered up by having your technician add more color along those areas, which also helps to give the area a slimmer appearance.
Finishing Touches: For a perfectly tanned face, Jimmy says to hold your breath, press your lips together and gently close your eyes right before your technician sprays your face for a completely natural tan.
If you can’t get to a spray tanning technician regularly (or afford the pricey beauty treatment), you can perfect the faux glow for yourself using at-home tanning products. Skipping the spray until you really learn to master the technique, try an easy-to-use mousse formula like the St. Tropez Self Tan Dark Bronzing Mousse (and a mitt!), and follow Jimmy’s tips. Because the formula shows up as you’re working with it, you’re less likely to end up with streaks or missed spots, and your can simply add an extra pump of the tanner along the spots that Jimmy recommends highlighting.
