We won’t know how Prince died for a few weeks, but during the first press conference following his death on April 22, Carver Country Sheriff, Jim Olson, discussed the speculation that the late singer may have committed suicide. Find out what he said here.
With so many rumors flying around about how Prince, 57, died on April 21, one possible speculation has been that he might’ve taken his own life. Officials discussed this possibility during a press conference on April 22 and we have an update on everything revealed right here.
There wasn’t much new information that we didn’t already know during the Q&A session, but the Sheriff did confirm that there were “no obvious signs of trauma” on Prince’s body when he was found on April 21, which gives authorities and the medical examiner “no reason” to believe that he committed suicide.
The Sheriff explained that staff members at Paisley Park, where Prince lived, grew concerned when they hadn’t seen him for a few hours, so they searched the compound and found him unresponsive in an elevator, then called 911. As we previously reported, officials arrived on the scene and attempted to revive the late singer with CPR, but were unsuccessful.
It’s been reported that the 57-year-old overdosed on Percocet just days before his death on April 15 and had to be given a “save shot” to stop the alleged overdose. However, Sheriff Olson and the Medical Examiner’s Office were not able to say whether or not there were drugs in his system at the time of his death, as the results of the autopsy are still pending.
The autopsy was completed on April 22, but it could be weeks before we know the results. Prince’s body has been released to his family, and we will continue to update you with details about any planned funeral or memorial service.
