It’s impossible to think of Prince and not associate him with the color Purple. It was his signature color and ‘Purple Rain’ was one of his most iconic hits. In his memory, the shade is now being used to honor the late singer in so many ways.
Purple is reigning everywhere in honor of Prince, from stadiums, TV channels and even NASA and using the shade to pay tribute to the music legend who passed away at 57-years-old in his suburban Minneapolis home Apr. 21. Keep reading for the ways purple is being used to keep alive his memory.
No place is in mourning more for Prince than the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul where the superstar grew up. Target Field in Minneapolis was lit up in purple in honor of the city’s fallen son, as the Minnesota Twins baseball team shared a photo on their Twitter account of all of the stadium’s displays and lighting in purple for their game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
“Fitting that it’s raining in Minneapolis today,” the team’s account noted along side a photo of the field bathed in purple. Even the main screen at the stadium featured a his photo and a good night message to him.

Even the heavily travelled I-35W Bridge in Minneapolis will be lit up in purple in Prince’s honor. The Minnesota Department of Transportation noted the span would “reign purple tonight.”

MTV – which was integral in helping launch his career with his sexy videos back in the 1980’s, is even having its logo turn purple throughout the day in Prince’s memory. Google showed their love for the late entertainer by making their colorful logo turn purple and rain in Prince’s memory.
