SO sad! The iconic singer was only 57 years old. But although he was best known for being a world-famous singer and superstar, the icon was much more than that. He was also an award-winning musician, talented producer, prolific songwriter, and actor.
Throughout Prince’s lifetime, he produced ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles. He also ran his own record label. But before he completely rocked the music industry with his innovative approach to songwriting, Prince was a child prodigy from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The singer wrote his first song at age seven and by the time he was 19, he released his debut album titled For You.
Some of his most famous singles include “Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?” “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” “Purple Rain,” and “Kiss.” “Purple Rain,” was arguably Prince’s most famous song as it immediately secured his title as music royalty. He also appeared in a film of the same name. Prince’s songs were known for creating controversy due to their fusion of religious and sexual themes.
Prince changed his name many times throughout his career, which spanned decades. However, in 2000, he began referring to himself as just “Prince” once again. He released thirteen albums since the beginning of the 21st century, including his final, HITnRUN Phase Two, which was released in 2015. He ended up selling over 80 million records, winning seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
