Another great is gone from out midst. The artist known as Prince has sandly passed away on April 21. Sadly, Prince is not the first iconic star to leave us in 2016, and the shocking celebrity death toll continues to rise.
Prince, 56, has passed away leaving behind a lifetime of memories and incredible accomplishments. He is one of many entertainers including David Bowie, 69, Alan Rickman, 69, and most recently, Doris Roberts, 90, who have died this year, and it doesn’t get any easier. It’s always a shock when a legendary star dies, but their work will live on for years and years to come.
The world is still reeling from news of Prince’s sudden death on April 21. The star, who recently had to have an emergency landing on his plane in Illinois due to the flu following an April 14 concert in Atlanta, was found dead in his Paisley Park Residence. The musician is most famously known for his album Purple Rain which earned him two Grammy’s and an Oscar. He is also considered a genius and a visionary in the music world, and will be deeply missed by many.
Unfortunately he was not the only star to fall this year. David passed away on Jan. 10 after a long battle with liver cancer. The music icon hadn’t made news of his illness public before his death, making news all the more shocking for fans. The artist was a legendary figure and his many evolution’s as an artist over the course of his career kept him at the top of his game.
Celine Dion’s, 48, husband Rene Angelil, 73, passed away on January 14. The couple had been married for more than 20 years, and his death came as a shocker to the world. He was a well respected musical producer, manager, and singer. His cause of death was throat cancer, and he was survived by his wife and six children.
Alan’s death on Jan. 14 came as a major loss for the Harry Potter family, with many stars expressing their condolences and sorrows via social media. Beyond Harry Potter, Alan was an incredible performer with a long list of credits to his name. He was probably most known for his many roles on Broadway throughout the course of his career. He was survived by his wife Rima Horton.
Most famously known for her role as Ray Romano’s mother in Everybody Loves Raymond, Doris’ death on April 17 was a sad loss for American television. From the social media reaction from former stars, it seems Doris lived a full life with lots of vibrant energy. She was survived by her son and three grandchildren.
Country music star Joey Feek, 40, of the group Joey + Rory, passed away on March 4 after a long and harrowing battle with Cervical Cancer. The star had been documenting her treatments and diagnosis on a blog, along with her husband Rory Feek . The star leaves behind her husband and daughter Indiana.
Garry Shandling, 66, passed away on March 24 due to a heart attack. Garry was an iconic writer and actor with a varied list of credits to his name, and was the writer and creative mind behind the The Larry Sanders Show. The actors voice over work was remarkable as well, and he is even featured as the voice of Ikki in the upcoming film The Jungle Book.
Country music lost a lot of great people this year, and Merle Haggard, 79, was no exception. The star passed away in his home after suffering from pneumonia. Leaving behind a legacy of beautiful music and great memories.
When lead singer of Motorhead, Lemmy Kilmister, 70, died suddenly from health complications, the world was numb. He was a beautiful soul who brought so much to the table when it came to rock & roll, and his energy and talent was missed instantly. He lived a full life, but it didn’t ease the pain.
If you’re a fan of classic music, then this has been a tough year so far. Another legendary star succumbed to a fatal illness and the rock band The Eagles lost their right hand man Glenn Frey, 67, this year. He died after succumbing to Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia after undergoing intestinal surgery. He was survived by his wife Cindy Millican and their three children.
