This is SUCH amazing news that our dream is finally becoming a reality!
Tina had been busy writing and producing her Netflix hit, but with the delay because of Ellie’s baby on board she’ll be working with her husband, composer Jeff Richmond, and lyricist Nell Benjamin, full-time over the coming months in putting the show together. However, a whole lot as changed since the movie came out 12 years ago, especially the emergence of social media and smartphones being such a gigantic part of our lives. Those things weren’t around as much back then so Tina is looking at whether or not the Plastics are going to be texting each other snappy banter. Think about it, they used a Burn BOOK as their main way of attacking each other and spilling secrets. Now all of that would happen all over Snapchat or Twitter!
“The thing about social media is that it doesn’t dramatize well,” she said. “It’s been a question of like, ‘Yeah, do you take out things that are now outdated like three-way calling and stuff?'” Um, three-way calling is definitely a thing of the past, because people don’t use landlines anymore. It’s crazy how that movie is like a time capsule now!
HollywoodLifers, would you go see Mean Girls as a musical? Do you think Tina is going to nail the feel of the original movie?
