What will happen to Caskett?! Stana Katic, who plays the beloved Beckett, is leaving ‘Castle.’ Her character will not be returning for season 9.
No one saw this coming. Stana Katic, 37, is leaving Castle after 8 seasons. Her character, Beckett, will not be returning for season 9. This means, if the show is picked up, Castle (Nathan Fillion) will be solving crimes without Beckett — for good!
ABC is planning Castle’s potential ninth season without Stana, our sister site Deadline first reported. Original cast member Tamala Jones, who plays Lanie Parish, is also out.
HollywoodLife.com received the following statement about Stana’s departure: “Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past 8 years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship. Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of Castle.”
Stana also released a statement to Deadline about her departure. “Rather then distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show,” she said. “Thank you to the fans.”
Aw! We’re going to miss you, Stana! Beckett and Castle are a dynamic duo and one of the best couples on TV. For the past 8 seasons, everyone has shipped Caskett. Will Beckett get a happy ending, or will the show pull a Grey’s Anatomy and kill off a main character?!
ABC has not announced if Castle has been picked up for a ninth season. If the show returns, it will reportedly be a 13-episode season, with Nathan set to reprise his role as the author-turned-PI.
