Getting back to her super hot pre-pregnancy body was a goal for Naya Rivera, 29, after she gave birth to her son, Josey Dorsey, 7 months, back in September. And boy did Naya take her weight-loss goal seriously! The singer melted away the pounds — 60 of them to be exact — by following a strict diet and getting a little extra help from a professional. But that’s not all she did!
As soon as baby Josey was born, Naya dropped all sugary snacks in an effort to make her weight-loss goal a reality. But although ditching sugar helped, the former Glee star actually credits the combination of healthy eating, low-impact exercise, and NURSING as her best fat-blasting strategies. The actress, who graced the cover of the May issue of Fit Pregnancy and Baby, revealed that the first 30 pounds came off easily but it was those last pesky 30 that took more effort.
“My closet was divided in half: On one side were maternity clothes and on the other side were clothes I thought I would never wear again,” Naya revealed to the mag. But since she knew she wanted to be back in front of a camera, Naya made getting in shape a career goal, which resulted in her investing in a trainer. “I know I’m lucky. Not all moms can afford one,” she confessed. “But I’m not really self-motivated. And I don’t know what to do at the gym. I always feel lost. [Without a trainer] I’d probably just end up not working out, and then go to the steam room.” We hear ya, Naya!
So the new mom began taking spin classes three days a week, and her trainer focused on her core during workouts, which was totally obvious when the beauty flaunted her perfectly toned abs just five months after giving birth. “I was wearing maternity gear while working my butt off,” she gushed. One advantage she was happy to have: She had been in shape before getting pregnant, thanks to years of dancing as a character on Glee. “Muscle memory luckily kicked in,” she said.
In addition to staying fit, the self-described multi-tasker also just finished her first book, a memoir. She completed the work just about a week before giving birth to Josey. Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes and Growing Up will hit stores this September. Now that she has written about her Los Angeles childhood and has had a child of her own, she says her relationship with her mother has become even stronger. “If I’m a fraction of the mother my mom is, I’ll be happy,” she says. “Very happy.” So sweet!
What do you think about Naya’s post-baby weight-loss journey, HollywoodLifers? Doesn’t she look amazing?
