FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! Detroit Red Wings’ Justin Abdelkadeer unleashed his fury on Mike Blunden during his team’s playoff game against Tampa Bay Lightning during an epic brawl. See the video here!
We haven’t seen a good old-fashioned hockey fight like this for years! Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lighting played out game 2 of their playoff game in the NHL, but it seemed more WWE when Justin Abdelkader, 29, laid out Tampa’s Mike Blunden, also 29, in a fierce mass brawl!
All the action went down at the end of the third quarter, when Brad Richards of the Wings took his frustrations out on Andrej Sustr with his team 5-2 down by slashing at him. The two teams then got involved in a mass brawl, but it was Justin who seemed to lose his cool, striking Mike when he was down on the ice.
Mike’s face was a rearranged bloody mess, and he seemed furious with the attention he got from Justin, who was assessed a game misconduct and left the ice. Remarkably, 13 other penalties were handed out for the incident.
For a split lip, nose, cheek, Mike reportedly needed 9 stitches to fix his wounds. Meanwhile, the Lightning will look to seek some sort of retaliation against Justin in game 3 of the series because even though fighting is ok, hitting someone when they’re down repeatedly is a big no, no!
It seems like it was really just sour grapes from Justin, whose team are already 2-0 down in the series to Tampa Bay and appear to be crashing out of the playoffs. It’ll be interesting to see what game 3 brings, or if any more fights happen, on Apr.17.
Interestingly, fighting in the NFL is down this season, and at its lowest since 1967. Maybe these two were just making up for lost time!
