SO awkward! Tensions between Ciara and Future reached a new low when the rapper’s baby mother refused to even utter his name while announcing the Billboard Music Award nominees on national TV. Wow — Apparently Ciara’s hatred runs MUCH deeper than we thought!
Ciara, 30, is hosting the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, which you’d think would provide some incentive to get her to say Future‘s, 32, name, but apparently not. While revealing the Top Rap Artist category on ABC News on April 11, the singer went dead silent as her ex’s picture appeared on the screen — talk about bad blood! Check out the cringe-worthy video below.
Revealing the finalists for Top Rap Artist of the year, Ciara had no problem announcing Drake, 29, and Fetty Wap, 24, as contenders, but when it came time to announce her ex’s name, the superstar could just NOT do it. So get this — she decided to hit viewers with a painfully stiff pause instead! Luckily, her co-host Ludacris, 38, saved the day by jumping in with a simple “Future.” Way to go, Luda!
And after her major blip, Ciara casually picked up exactly where she left off, announcing Wiz Khalifa, 28, and Silento, 18, as the remaining nominees. Pretty cold, right? Would it really have been THAT hard to say Future’s name? And while Future is also up for Top Rap Album for What A Time To Be Alive with Drake, we have to ask, is it too late to get Future to perform at the award show? Now THAT would be awkward!
Luda saved the day, tho.

But in all seriousness, we definitely understand CiCi’s point of view. After all, she and Future were engaged when they finally called it quits. And although Ciara has totally moved on and is now engaged to NFL powerhouse Russell Wilson, 27, Future has still said some pretty hurtful things about the singer.
Their relationship is SO volatile in fact that Ciara sued the rapper earlier this year for dragging her name through the mud. Yeah, it doesn’t look like these two will be putting their issues behind them anytime soon. Hopefully they both can avoid any awkward run-ins during the Billboard Music Awards, which air live on ABC starting at 8pm ET on May 22.
HollywoodLifers — how do you feel about Ciara refusing to say Future’s name? Was it childish of her or totally justified?
