Poor La’Porsha Renae! When Trent Harmon’s name was announced as the winner of ‘American Idol’ Apr. 7, she looked absolutely devastated. HollywoodLife.com spoke to the runner-up to see if there’s any lingering bitterness.
Such a shocker! La’Porsha Renae, 22, was so heavily favored to be crowned the final American Idol, so is she angry that she didn’t take home the ultimate prize? Even the judges reacted in stunned disbelief that she lost the title to fellow Mississippian Trent Harmon, 25, and La’Porsha herself looked floored as well. HollywoodLife.com talked to the singing powerhouse after the competition to see if she’s still hurting about the voters’ choice.
“I am not angry at all! I am not surprised at all, this is the way American Idol is and something that always happens! The person everyone thinks is going to win usually doesn’t, so that is why I hated good critiques all the time!” she told HollywoodLife.com after the show wrapped. TOO TRUE about all the praise that the judges kept heaping on La’Porsha week after week. From the way they glowed about her, she was practically crowned the winner long before the competition ended.
“It is kind of the way the game goes and I am completely fine with it. I am not angry or surprised. Trent deserved this, he earned this just as much as I felt that I did. It could have been either way.” Aww, it’s sweet that she’s such a good sport about this.
As we previously told you EXCLUSIVELY, she admitted she didn’t always bring her A-game and that might have cost her the competition. “I don’t — you know I think I did my best,” La’Porsha responded to show mentor Scott Borchetta, 53, saying she may have handed Trent the victory after she “slacked a little” in her performances. “Trent did his best and at the end of the day, it is about what America wanted.”
The fact that La’Porsha landed a record deal immediately after the show had to take the sting off of losing out to Trent. Scott told reporters right after the finale that he’d signed BOTH finalists to his label Big Machine, saying “Here is what we are going to do, we are going to sign them both! We are going to something different this season, I love both of them! So they are both signed and I am honored to say that she is the first artist signed to Big Machine/Motown! I love them both and they are both great!”
HollywoodLifers, whose debut record are you looking forward to more, La’Porsha’s or Trent’s?
