Now let’s get back to the matter in hand! US women’s soccer was dragged through the mire when Abby Wambach, 35, was arrested on Apr. 3. Now it’s time for the current group of players to erase that memory with a stellar performance against Colombia. Will they beat the 2015 World Cup quarter-finalists like last time out? Click down to find out!
The US women’s team is on an incredible run of wins since their World Cup win. In the recent She Believes tournament they saw off England, France and Germany to lift that trophy. Hope Solo and the girls seem absolutely invincible and will take this game in East Hartford, Connecticut in their stride.
Not only are they full of confidence at the moment, they know full well that they have the beating of this Colombian team. They proved that with their win in last year’s World Cup when they were victorious in a 2-0 win. That set the USWNT on their way to lifting the trophy.
Lots of talk in this one is about the shock team news that Hope may be sacrificed for Alyssa Naeher or Ashlyn Harris in an experimental line-up as coach Jill Ellis looks towards the Olympics, which the USWNT will be favorites to lift gold in.
Let’s also not forget that the USWNT is fighting with the US Soccer Federation over a new collective bargaining agreement, and is asking for a federal investigation of US soccer wage discrimination, so there may be some distractions.
Considering the pay difference between the men’s and girl’s team, and how more successful the girl’s team is, they should definitely get looked after better financially.
HollywoodLifers, do you think the US women’s national team will continue their incredible run? Or will Colombia beat them? Let us know your predictions below!
