Your 2016 Basketball Hall of Fame inductees are here, and their titles are well-deserved! The legendary players Shaquille O’Neal, Tom Izzo, Jerry Reinsdorf, Sheryl Swoops, Yao Ming and Allen Iverson have all joined the Hall of Fame!
It’s shocking to think that these pros weren’t already in the Basketball Hall of Fame, but luckily the titles were rightly given to them in 2016! NBA and WNBA legends Shaquille O’Neal, Tom Izzo, Jerry Reinsdorf, Sheryl Swoops, Yao Ming and Allen Iverson were inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, the organization announced on April 4.
Three cheers for these six! The Hall of Fame announcement was made in Houston, Texas, before the Monday, April 4 NCAA championship game between Villanova and North Carolina. What better way to be inspired than by seeing your heroes be honored in one of the most prestigious ways possible?
In addition to the six inductees, membership was given posthumously to Zelmo Beaty, Darell Garretson, John McLendon and Cumberland Posey, among other deserving players. Shaq and Allen were the headliners of the Hall of Fame class, and it’s really no surprise why they were tasked with that role.
Shaq is one of the greatest centers in NBA history, if you ask anyone and their mother. Throughout his career, Shaq became a four-time NBA champion, the 1992-93 Rookie of the Year, the 1999-2000 league MVP, a two-time scoring champion, and a three-time NBA Finals MVP.
He was selected 15 times for the All-Stars! Damn! Allen is just as impressive. He was the 1996-97 Rookie of the Year, the 2000-01 league MVP, and was selected for the All-Stars 11 times! Additionally, he was a four-time scoring champion! What a stud!
HollywoodLifers, help us send our congratulations to all the new Hall of Famers in the comments!
