It’s taken 27 years of innuendos, but Waylon Smithers is coming out of the closet! The beloved character from ‘The Simpsons’ will reveal that he’s gay on the April 3 episode — click through to watch a sneak peek!
The Simpsons is doing something that fans never believed the show would actually do: actually reveal that Smithers is gay. It’s been heavily implied in the 27 years since the show’s conception that Mr. Burns’ assistant at the nuclear power plant was gay, but it was never outright said. But that’s all changing on the April 3 episode! Click through to watch a sneak peek!
Leave it to Homer Simpson to think that he could make this situation totally okay. The lovable buffoon hears that his boss at the power plant, Smithers, finally came out of the closet, and immediately wants to set him up with someone cute! In the clip from Fox, it appears that Homer set up a party full of eligible bachelors at the Simpsons’ home.
Yeah, Smithers isn’t having it. Fans of the show know that he’s not too fond of Homer; he doesn’t really make his job any easier with all his dumb antics, sweet as he can be! Remember that time he started a nuclear meltdown because he fell asleep and spilled soda all over the control panel?
In the clip, Homer asks him if he wants a Tom Collins, and he doesn’t mean the drink! He’s invited a handsome blonde man named Tom Collins, whom he’d like Smithers to date! One of the other partygoers? George Takei, who’s voicing himself! Too funny.
It’s going to be a strange episode for longtime Simpsons fans, because it means that there will no longer be hilarious innuendos about Smithers — and his deep love for Mr. Burns. No more day dreams where Burns jumps out of giant cake. He’ll probably delete that screensaver that says Hello Smithers, you’re turning me on”! The vacations that strangely only feature men, and aren’t addressed? Totally out in the open now!
