Kesha will not be backing down on her allegations against Dr. Luke anytime soon — even if it means sacrificing her freedom. In her latest update about the case, Kesha revealed that she was offered her freedom, but only if she were to lie about what happened. See her message here.
After everything that Kesha has been through in her contract battle with her alleged rapist, Dr. Luke, all she has to do is apologize. Nearly two months after a judge denied the 29-year-old singer’s request for a release from her contract with Sony and Dr. Luke, 42, Kesha shared a message on Instagram to let her fans know that she was offered her freedom if she publicly retracts her accusations…but she swears that’s the last thing she’ll ever do.
“So. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie. I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped,” Kesha wrote in a caption accompanying a fresh-faced selfie on April 3. “THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.”
While we love Kesha for standing her ground, it’s heartbreaking to think that no progress will be made in favor of the “Tik Tok” singer unless she goes against her beliefs. She has been fighting this battle since October 2014, when she sued Dr. Luke for allegedly forcing her to do drugs and sexually assaulting her while they worked on two of her albums. Dr. Luke has continually denied Kesha’s claims and called her a “liar,” but Kesha has yet to back down.
Once the judge’s refused Kesha the ability to nullify her contract, she quickly appealed, stating that “[you] can’t force someone to work…in a situation in which they don’t want to work” and arguing that the situation is “slavery.” Although this sparked Dr. Luke’s attorney to slam Kesha for “manufacturing more lies,” Kesha’s persistence with the claim certainly doesn’t make it seem like she’s making this up — especially since she isn’t willing to apologize in order to be freed.
The entire situation has put a hold on Kesha’s career, as she hasn’t recorded any new music since the legal battle began. While a source revealed to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that Kesha has taken “low-paying gigs” in order to stay financially stable, she’s eager to regain a hold of her career and frankly, her life. But if the only way to do that is to retract her painstaking allegations and let Dr. Luke win, it seems Kesha may never get the freedom she is looking for.
