Kobe Bryant isn’t ready to let Nick Young and D’Angelo Russell’s drama tear his team apart. While keeping the peace between the pair, The L.A. Lakers forward came to Nick’s defense in a post-game press conference on March 30. Get his take on his teammate’s cheating admission here!
“It’s tough. There’s a lot to learn,” Kobe told reporters. “I’m sure he’ll evolve and grow and be better from it. The guys are so understanding. We’re all human beings. Everybody makes mistakes. It sounds like the NBA star is also referring to D’Angelo, who recorded the video of Nick saying he was unfaithful to Iggy Azalea. The 20-year-old also discussed the scandal after the game, revealing that he had nothing to do with leaking the footage, and admitting to feeling terrible for what became of a clip that was just supposed to be a goofy Snapchat.
“I feel as sick as possible,” he said, adding, “I mean, I’ve always been known as a guy that plays around a lot and he has been, too. I don’t know, to be around someone that’s similar, with the same characteristics, is different. He’s one of the guys I’ve always talked to about anything and I’ve cherished our friendship and for me to have an incident like this come up and put it in jeopardy is not what I was intending to do.”
As for Nick, it seems like he’s coming to terms with accepting his pal’s apology. “What happened is what happened,” he shrugged. “Ya gotta work on it. I don’t want to get into my personal life right now, I think it’s best. You know, me and D’Angelo handled the situation in a private matter outside the media. I do think it’s something we need to sit down and talk about.”
Meanwhile, Kobe spoke to D’Angelo one-on-one after this all went down and offered him some sound advice. “When you got a guy like Kobe or somebody that’s been through, I don’t know, everything, and he’s just like…you gotta just play,” the point guard explained. “You gotta just play, there’s no answer. There’s nothing anybody can say, you gotta just play. So I ran with it.”
