As long as Gwen Stefani‘s, 46, sons are happy and healthy, it doesn’t matter to her if they’re straight, gay…whatever! In fact, the mother-of-three would feel totally blessed if she had a gay child. And as ‘The Voice’ coach continues to celebrate the release of her latest solo album ‘This Is What the Truth Feels Like,’ she spoke candidly about sexuality — making it clear that she doesn’t care WHO her kids end up loving in life. Aw!
“I would be blessed with a gay son,” she told Pride Source on March 25. “You KNOW that I would feel blessed about that. I just want my boys to be happy and healthy, and I just ask God to guide me every day to be a good mother because it is not an easy job.” Beautiful, right? We love that the rockstar just wants what’s best for her kids — no matter what that may be.
“I’ve been lucky enough to have such a blessed life. I’ve been able to travel the world and meet so many different kinds of people. And it doesn’t really matter if you’re gay, straight, whatever,” Gwen gushed. “There are good and bad people, and I would be happy. I just want my kids to be happy, and whatever journey God gives them is their journey. I just need to be the most supportive mom that I can be and that’s what I’m gonna be.” Bravo, Gwen!
Gwen also believes that so much has changed for the better in regards to the LGBT community. While watching The Danish Girl, for example, the “Make Me Like You” singer was extremely impressed by the courage shown by Eddie Redmayne‘s character during a time that was much less accepting. “I mean, can you imagine back then? Whoa,” she explained. “I feel like it’s less and less [like that] these days, and it’s hard for me to understand because it doesn’t seem different or weird or anything anymore because it just seems so normal to me.”
But although Gwen recognizes that it’s easier than ever to be true to yourself in this modern era, she does acknowledge the hardships that are still associated with being “different.” “It’s gotta be difficult to be the alternative, to not be the mainstream, or to be different, if you want to call it that,” she said. And we agree! But parental support is a great first step and we just love that Gwen is willing to do whatever it takes to make her boys feel loved and confident.
“As long as my boys are protected and happy and I’m spending quality time with them, whether it’s doing sports or doing nails, it doesn’t really matter,” Gwen said. Spending quality time with her sons has been a priority for Gwen lately as her and her man, Blake Shelton, 39, recently attended close friend’s wedding in Orange County along with Gwen’s boys. Kingston, 9, held onto the bride and groom’s wedding bands, Zuma, 7, assisted the bride down the aisle, and Apollo, 2, watched from the sidelines with his rocker mom. As for Easter weekend and spring break, Gwen and Blake were recently spotted on Snapchat with the kids in Oklahoma!
