Never has a Bachelor confessed to falling in love with two finalists and actually waking up on the morning of proposal day without a final decision. But fortunately, the man of the hour made the right choice of brides just in time. Here’s why.
Bachelor Ben Higgins, you didn’t go wrong when you ultimately cut JoJo Fletcher loose and got down on your knee to propose to Lauren Bushnell. In fact, the look of love couldn’t have been clearer on last night’s Bachelor finale and then on the After the Rose and Jimmy Kimmel Live show.
It’s been about four months since you actually made your decision and proposed to the beautiful blonde flight attendant. Since then, you and Lauren have clearly spent time getting to know each other better and your love has only grown deeper. You two couldn’t keep your eyes or hands off each other on both TV shows. Then later last night when you played “The Newlywed Game” on Jimmy Kimmel, getting quizzed on whether you know each other’s first pet’s names or mother’s maiden names, you actually were correct several times and had a blast being wrong.
But more telling was when Chris Harrison asked Lauren on the After the Rose show how she felt about finding out that Ben had been intimate with other women on the show, and had even said “I love you” to JoJo. Lauren wasn’t jealous or upset, as various media outlets had reported. Instead, she explained that she knew at the start of the Bachelor show what she was getting into. She understood the process and she decided that she wasn’t going to let jealousy eat her up or allow it to hurt her loving relationship with Ben. That’s such a mature and understanding position. Lauren needs to be applauded for wisely focusing on her future with Ben, rather than fixating on the past. Not all — maybe most — women could do what Lauren did. To be fair, JoJo is also mature and thoughtful enough to not be bitter and hold any Ben/Lauren grudges, but clearly she didn’t really harbor deep enough feelings for Ben. She’s been able to easily move on to…the Bachelorette.
I don’t think the actual Bachelor show allowed us to see enough of Lauren’s maturity and great sense of humor, but these were qualities that were obvious to Ben and they shone through when they were finally publicly together as a couple last night. Lauren easily laughed along with Ben as the couple recounted a story about one of their favorite rendezvous while they were “hidden” away in the past few months. The pair was set up by ABC in a beautiful secluded home, but without any WiFi or TV. There was nothing to do but focus on each other for the duration. They loved it!
If Ben had made a mistake with his choice, it would have been a hell of a vacation. Instead, it was heaven. When Ben talked with Chris Harrison last night, Ben was very definitive — he had no regrets about his decision to propose to and marry Lauren. He was deeply involved in his happy and fulfilling relationship with her. Lauren also announced that she had decided to move to his town, Denver. Ben and Lauren found love on the Bachelor. A wedding will soon be in the works, the couple promised. So despite the odds, Ben — who sincerely wanted to find the right wife — knew his own heart and needs, and Lauren was the right woman!
Do you agree, Hollywoodlifers — did Ben choose the right woman? Let me know.
