It’s official: Marco Rubio is no longer in the race for President of the United States. The Florida senator suspended his campaign on Mar. 15 after losing his home state by a landslide to Donald Trump. Here’s what he said in his emotional goodbye speech.
So long, Marco Rubio! The Florida senator just said his final goodbyes to his 2016 presidential campaign after losing to Donald Trump in his home state. The Cuban-American nominee was full of emotions as he thanked all of his supporters and ended his run. Find out what he had to say, right here.
A sad moment for Marco on Mar. 15. The Florida senator gave up on his dream of becoming the next president of America after Donald crushed him in the Sunshine State. Marco was clearly emotional during his announcement, seemingly filled with sadness, pride, and gratitude to those who supported him throughout his race.
Marco admitted that in a way, he still felt as though he won something. “My mother was able to cast a ballot for her son to be the President of the United States of America today,” he explained, wiping away a single tear as his supporters chanted his name passionately. That’s when he revealed that he was going to suspend his campaign. “While we are on the right side, this year we will not be on the winning side,” said Marco. “I still remain hopeful and optimistic about America.”
However, Marco used the moment to warn the Republicans about the future of their party, and the need for an inclusive president. Marco insisted that we need someone to run “a campaign to be a president that will love all of the American people, even the ones that don’t love you back. This is the right way forward for our party.” This was a clear attack on his nemesis Donald, and we hope some of the other candidates will heed that advice.
