Even ‘The Most Interesting Man In The World’ has to hang up his hat sometime! But while the Mexican beer brand, Dos Equis, is letting go of its gray-haired spokesman, Jonathan Goldsmith, there’s no question that Jonathan’s character went out with an EPIC last hurrah!
If anyone knows how to make a proper exit, it’s “The Most Interesting Man In The World.” And Jonathan Goldsmith, 77, who has been playing the iconic role for Dos Equis for about nine years, made sure his last commercial for the beer brand before retirement was one his fans will never forget. Climbing aboard a massive rocket ship, the silver fox bought himself a one-way ticket for a land far far away. Relive his final goodbye below!
In Jonathan’s last Dos Equis commercial ever, his character, “The Most Interesting Man In The World,” is heroically shipped off in a rocket to — wait for it — Mars! Yes, it’s true, the thrill-seeker has literally done it ALL here on Earth and now he’s on to far bigger and better things. And we have to say, we’re not even surprised! We can only imagine that this highly adventurous character would feel the need to retire somewhere not many have ventured before. I mean, he IS “The Most Interesting Man In The World!”
And talk about a sendoff! As he bravely climbs aboard the space craft, he shouts those famous words: “Stay thirsty, my friends” for the last time as a crowd made up of thousands of fans from all over the world cheer. If only we could all be so cool. Even the actor behind the well-known character feels humbled to have played such a noteworthy role.
“I feel terrific, I really do,” Jonathan revealed to the LA Times when asked about his departure with Dos Equis. “I’ve had a great time in the last 10 years.” And there’s no question that America has had a great time watching Jonathan! After all, as “The Most Interesting Man In The World,” Jonathan has created some pretty memorable commercials. So memorable in fact that, according to him, fans approach him all the time, “It’s overwhelming recognition,” he revealed. “I would be literally mobbed.”

Since Dos Equis starting airing “The Most Interesting Man In The World” ads in 2007, the company, owned by Amsterdam-based Heineken, said sales of the brand have nearly tripled. Wow! So why the sudden change of pace? Dos Equis wants to attract “new drinkers,” according to the brand’s vice president of marketing. So apparently the world’s most intriguing man is no longer very captivating for today’s audience. Aw — well WE will definitely miss him!
But hey, Jonathan is certainly not shedding a tear. After all, portraying this famous icon has taught him quite a lot. “[He] made millions of people smile over these many years,” Jonathan gushed to USA Today. “There is a real connection with the fun and authenticity of the character, which I portray with the same joy and passion that is part of my own life.” We’re sure Jonathan, much like “The Most Interesting Man In The World,” will soon be off to greater and better things!
As for Dos Equis, they’re being super secretive about the details surrounding their new campaign. We CAN tell you this though, a different actor is set to take on the role as “The Most Interesting Man In The World” later this year. Hmm…we wonder who it’ll be!
What do you think of Jonathan’s epic last commercial, HollywoodLifers? Are you going to miss him as “The Most Interesting Man In The World”?
