Game 2 of this Champions League match in the round of 16 features two strong opponents in Benfica and Zenit. Both clubs are outfitted with top-notch strikers and quality keepers which always makes for great fireworks when the two international teams get together.
The last two times they met, in group play, Zenit had the upper hand scoring three goals total and giving up nil to Benfica. Their most recent match saw Benfica breaking their slump with their first ball in the net. The one goal was enough for the victory in the first game in round of 16.
If the Russians want to win this match they will need to get the ball past Julio Cesar, 36, the goalkeeper for Benfica. Julio is considered the best keeper of his generation and has played on several World Cup teams for his home country, Brazil.
The guy to watch on the Zenit squad is the 6’4″ Russian they call Artem Dzyuba, 27. The forward is a scoring threat every time he puts a foot on the ball. Julio’s best chance at stopping him is, if Artem gets lost on his way to the Petrovsky Stadium. Otherwise, forget about it!
Jonas Oliveira, 31, known simply as Jonas, gave Benfica their last victory at home against Zenit. The forward made an exciting header in the first minute of extra time for the stunning win. The goal prompted Jonas to rip his shirt off and leap into the home crowd. That little stunt was enough to earn him a yellow card from the unimpressed referee.
