What an amazing and empowering group of females! ‘Variety’ has announced the full list of women being honored at its Power of Women luncheon for 2016 and we have the full list. See who joins Lupita Nyong’o in the group of this year’s most philanthropic women!
Variety’s annual Power of Women luncheon is just a month away, and this year’s list of Lifetime Impact honorees features a group of incredible ladies who’ve went above and beyond throughout the last year. Find out the five stars who’ve made the list for 2016 right here!
The annual event, which honors philanthropic women in entertainment, will take place on April 8 at Cipriani Midtown in New York City. Lupita Nyong’o, Julianne Moore, Megyn Kelly, Misty Copeland and Vera Wang are the five ladies who will be honored this year, and we couldn’t think of a more deserving group!
Lupita has done incredible work for Mother Health International, a nonprofit organization that provides help for pregnant women in areas of war and poverty. MHI works to reduce the infant and maternal mortality rates in these locations by setting up birthing centers and training midwives to provide comprehensive care.
For dancer Misty, the philanthropy of choice is Project Plie, an initiative that aims to increase racial and ethnic representation in ballet. The organization provides training and support to dancers in underrepresented areas. Considering Misty was the first African American woman to become a principal dancer in the American Ballet Theater, we couldn’t think of a better organization for her to support!
Julianne acts for Everytown for Gun Safety, which is a pretty self-explanatory organization — it aims to end gun violence in communities across the United States. The group is made up of moms, mayors and survivors who are working to make towns and cities safer to live in. Journalist Megyn supports ChildHelp, a nonprofit that aids victims of child abuse by providing treatment centers and places for education on the difficult subject.
Finally, Vera’s work is done for The Youth Anxiety Center, a collaboration of highly-respected medical centers with the goal of better understanding how anxiety affects young people as they make big transitions in their lives, particularly that of moving away from home to a life of independent living.
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of the 2016 Variety Power Of Women honorees?! Is there anyone else you think should’ve made the list?
