Honey, she’s good! Andy Grammer’s wife, Aijia Lise, tried to break into a solo career of her own by auditioning for ‘The Voice,’ and she sounded beautiful. Did the coaches agree?
Who knew Andy Grammer was married to a fellow singer? The “Honey, I’m Good” singer, 32, appeared on the March 7 episode of The Voice, but not to sing himself — he was there to support his wife, Aijia Lise, 29, who auditioned! Despite having a famous hubby, Aijia had all eyes on her when she took the stage in hopes of turning at least one chair!
Aijia confessed in her introduction that she was dying to be picked by Christina Aguilera, so she decided to take on Christina’s song with A Great Big World, “Say Something.” Although Aijia gave a great performance of the tune, it sadly wasn’t enough to make Christina hit her button — or any of the coaches, unforutunately.
While Aijia serenaded the crowd, Andy looked on adoringly, clearly approving of his wife’s performance. “It felt good to me,” Andy told Aijia as he gave her a hug when she returned from her audition. “That’s a hold your head up performance right there. I’m not upset with that.” Watch Aijia’s performance below!
Before Aijia auditioned, she admitted that she felt The Voice was her last shot at making it as a solo artist. She currently sings backup for Selena Gomez, and with Andy’s career booming, she’s eager to stop living in shadows. “I feel so proud of him, but it’s so hard to feel constantly in the background of someone else’s moment,” she said.
Even though she didn’t turn a chair, all of the coaches did tell Aijia that she had a great voice. Christina told her was looking for a “little more tenderness,” as she thought Aijia was going for power than emotion. Hey, we can’t blame Aijia for trying some powerful vocals to get Christina’s attention!
Between her husband’s approval and positive feedback from the coaches, though, Aijia hardly even felt like she had been rejected. With a huge smile on her face, she said she’s ready to take the critiques and run with them — and after a performance like that, we certainly don’t think she’ll just be “Andy Grammer’s wife” for much longer!
Were you surprised Aijia didn’t make any chairs turn, HollywoodLifers? Do you think she would’ve been a good fit for Christina’s team? Tell us below!
