A young baseball fan accompanied his dad to a MLB game and during the event he whipped out his cellphone to capture the moment. It just so happened to be at the very same time that a stray bat flew up towards the stands — straight for his face. What happened next was epic!
Shaun Cunningham took his 8-year-old son to the Spring Training game on March 5 to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the Atlanta Braves. While there, the little guy started snapping pictures of his first game at the same moment a stray bat flew into the stands directly at his face.
The Father of the Year Award definitely goes out to this guy. Shaun’s cat-like reflexes saved his son’s face from meeting a wooden bat head-on (pun intended). During the game a bat was flung into the stands while the young child was playing on his cellphone. His father quickly stretched his arm out to grab the flying bat which was only inches from smashing his 8-year-old boy in the nose.
The bat belonged to the Pirates’ outfielder, Danny Ortiz. Sadly, he wasn’t able to sign the bat for the boy, because the Cunningham family had to leave during the seventh inning. Too bad, but at least the boy has all of these hilarious pictures to remember the event by.
