Is that Beyonce or Whitney Houston?! When Queen B covered one of the most iconic Whitney songs of all time, ‘I Will Always Love You,’ she sounded exactly like the original diva who sang it. Watch her breathtaking rendition here!
There’s a reason Beyonce‘s nickname is Slayonce! The 34-year-old singer took on perhaps one of the hardest songs to cover, Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You,” at the Center for Early Education’s 75th Anniversary Gala in Los Angeles on March 5, and she absolutely crushed it. There’s no way she didn’t make the late Whitney proud after a performance like that!
As a gala attendees watched in amazement, Beyonce belted out the tune, flawlessly hitting every note including the challenging falsetto in the chorus. But let’s be honest, has Bey ever missed a note? And of course, Queen B looked as incredible as she sounded, rocking a sequined zebra print mini dress and flowing curly locks. With the way Beyonce effortlessly sang the classic hit, she proved that no one can cover Whitney quite like Slayonce!
Along with “I Will Always Love You,” Beyonce sang some of her biggest hits like “Crazy In Love” and “XO” for the lucky crowd. She also expressed her love for The Center for Early Education, which is a “socio-economically and culturally diverse independent school for children, toddlers through grade six,” that “strives to graduate students who are joyful, resilient, life-long learners,” according to its mission statement. In fact, it’s rumored that Beyonce and Jay Z‘s daughter Blue Ivy is enrolled there! Watch part of Beyonce’s Whitney performance below!

Although Beyonce’s “I Will Always Love You” rendition was unbelievable, it actually wasn’t her first rodeo covering Whitney. Bey mashed up the track with her own song, “Halo,” during “The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour” in 2013, and she also sang Whitney’s song as a tribute to Paul Walker after his death that same year. No wonder Beyonce had no trouble nailing this performance — she’s practically a Whitney Houston pro by now!
Despite having practice covering Whitney in the past, though, Beyonce has proved that she’ll blow us away no matter what she’s singing. Even her mom Tina Knowles couldn’t help declaring that she should always be called Slayonce after her amazing Super Bowl performance with Coldplay!
As Beyonce gets ready to embark on her “Formation World Tour” — for which you can check out the full list of tour dates right here — we wouldn’t doubt it if her “I Will Always Love You” performance was some foreshadowing to the setlist for her shows. The tour kicks off in Miami on April 27, so we’ll certainly be eager to see if she brings out the Whitney cover once again!
