Scary, scary stuff! Lena Dunham was rushed to the hospital after an ovarian cyst burst, a complication from her ongoing struggle with endometriosis. Lena is undergoing surgery for the ruptured cyst.
Lena Dunham, 29, was immediately rushed to the hospital on Saturday, March 5 for a ruptured ovarian cyst, according to the actress’ spokesperson, Cindi Berger. She will have to undergo surgery. No further details about her condition, or which hospital she was taken to were provided. However, Lena does live in New York City.
“Lena Dunham has been very public with her personal bouts with endometriosis. This morning, she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture and has been taken to the hospital,” Cindi told PEOPLE magazine in a statement. “Lena will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital. We thank you for you understanding and hope that Lena’s privacy will be respected.”
Poor Lena! The Girls creator and actress has been open about her devastating illness, and revealed in February that it had taken a turn for the worse in terms of pain. She had to bow out of the press tour for Girls season 6 because of her chronic condition. Endometriosis is an illness in which the endometrium, or lining of the uterus, grows outside the uterine walls. Sometimes the endometrium can even spread to cover other parts of the pelvic region. It becomes extremely painful during menstruation because there’s nowhere for the lining to expel.
“I just want to let you know that, while I am so excited for Girls to return on Feb, 21, I won’t be out and about doing press for the new season,” Dunham wrote in her Instagram post. “As many of you know I have endometriosis, a chronic condition that affects approximately 1 in 10 women’s reproductive health. I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it’s time to rest.”
“That’s a hard thing to do, but I’m trying, because all I want is to make season 6 of Girls the best one yet,” she continued. “I’m lucky enough to have support and backup from Jenni, Judd and the whole Girls gang. So many women with this disease literally don’t have the option of time off and I won’t take it for granted. Wishing you all health & happiness, in whatever form suits you.”
HollywoodLifers, our thoughts are with Lena during this difficult time.
