Kelly Clarkson’s music touches the souls of everyone around her. Being abandoned by her father inspired her to write “Piece By Piece,” and Kelly, 33, confessed in an all-new interview that it makes her “incredibly sad” that so many people can relate to such heartbreak. She’s thinks it’s “awesome” she can reach others with her music, but she wishes people didn’t have to suffer like she did.
“It’s kind of incredibly sad how many people relate to the message,” she told Elvis Duran for the Z100 Morning Show via phone. “I think that’s what’s kind of awesome but disturbing, because it’s been a really remarkable thing after singing it — the response from it. I’m excited to be a vessel for a message that touches people, but at the same time I’m like, God, I wish it didn’t touch that many people.”
Kelly broke down in tears on American Idol on the Feb. 25 episode during her emotional performance of “Piece By Piece.” She calls the song a “reminder from hell” about what she went through. However, it reminds her to keep her priorities straight in life. Listen to Kelly’s music now!
“It’s like that 50/50 song where you’re like, ‘Oh, that’s incredibly sad but then incredibly hopeful,'” Kelly continued. “It’s totally hopeful and it’s kind of good. I have that reminder in life to keep my priorities in order, so it’s cool!”
The pregnant singer was overwhelmed by the massive support from fans after the performance. She told Ellen DeGeneres on the March 3 episode of Ellen that she “so embarrassed” that she cried so much! Don’t ever be ashamed, Kelly! You’re such an inspiration to all!
