Donald Trump and Megyn Kelly came face-to-face at the Republican debate on Mar. 3 for the first time since their very public feud began in the summer of 2015, and it wasn’t pretty. Megyn went after Donald for being a flip-flopper with his policies. Here’s what happened.
The Mar. 3 GOP debate was super intense, especially because it’s the first time that Megyn Kelly, 45, and Donald Trump, 69, have been in the same place at the same time in months. Clearly, tensions were running high because they totally clashed. Megyn went for the throat when she called Donald a “flip-flopper.” Here’s why.
Much to no one’s surprise, the first meeting between Donald and Megyn since their feud began in the summer of 2015 wasn’t exactly civil. Megyn was out for blood, and she came to the debate equipped with three separate clips showing Donald flip-flopping on issues, and he looked like an idiot.
The first video was of Donald first thinking we need to stay in Afghanistan, then saying it was a mistake going in. Then a video shows him originally saying he would accept Syrian refugees, then changing to say we have too many of our own problems to help. The final video was Donald saying George Bush lied to get the US into Afghanistan, then switching to say he doesn’t know.
After the first video, Donald starts to respond before Megyn stops him, saying “two more…”, and ignoring him as he tried to cut her off. While Megyn repeatedly tries to get him to explain each count, he says that he considers it “being flexible” rather than flip-flopping. “I changed my tune,” said Donald. “And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I’ve never seen a successful person who wasn’t flexible.”
Donald took a lot of heat for being very sexist and rude toward Megyn and many other women in his first FOX debate, saying “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever,” about Megyn following the performance. He has also called her a “bimbo” and said she has “no idea” how to do her job.
Clearly Megyn knows how to rattle Donald. He was so scared of her that he did something that could have potentially been very damaging to his campaign: he skipped the next FOX debate in Iowa because she was the moderator. Clearly it didn’t because he won Super Tuesday on Mar. 1 by a landslide, but we’ve been dying for this re-match for months and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
