It seems like every day ABC is adding more cast to their three-hour TV movie remake of ‘Dirty Dancing,’ so allow us to catch you up to speed.
Of course, we’ll start with the newly added cast. On March 2, Sarah Hyland joined Dirty Dancing as Lisa, Baby’s sister in the film; the role was originally played by Jane Brucker in the 1987 classic. While we’re not sure yet who will play the jerk that the sister is in love with, Robbie, we do know that Sarah doesn’t look too much like her sister on screen — Abigail Breslin is playing Baby, the role that Jennifer Grey perfected.
The Dirty Dancing TV movie is set for ABC, but is yet to have an air date, but is supposed to follow along with the storyline we fell in love with: Frances, AKA Baby, goes vacationing with her family in the Catskills in the 1960s, but even though she’s part of a good-girl clan, she can’t help falling for the bad boy dancer.
Here are the other iconic roles — and who’s playing what:
Penny, the dancer who gets pregnant will be played by The Pussycat Doll’s Nicole Scherzinger — it was originally played by Cynthia Rhodes.
Debra Messing is taking on the role of Baby’s mother Marjorie, the role originally played by Kelly Bishop. Now we also still don’t know who will be playing Marjorie’s husband, Jake who was played by the great Jerry Orbach. But we do have a few questions about how Debra Messing will be playing the mother of both Abigail Breslin and Sarah Hyland. But regardless, we cannot wait.
