You guys, it’s really happening. This is not a drill. Disney Channel just announced that we’re all heading back to East High for a new TV movie! Get all the details here.
We’re all in this together, so we can all freak out together. The Disney Channel’s new movie High School Musical 4 will introduce us to brand new Wildcats, and the rivals, the West High Knights. This is the best news ever! Plus, meet the new characters!
“High School Musical is part of Disney Channel’s DNA,” Disney Channel President Gary Marsh said in a statement on March 1. “It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we’re excited to announce ‘the start of something new’ as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the ‘High School Musical’ franchise.”
Unfortunately, Kenny Ortega will not be directing this sequel; Instead, DGA Award nominee Jeffrey Hornaday of Teen Beach Movie, and Teen Beach 2 is attached to direct and choreograph the movie. Casting directors Jason La Padura, C.S.A., Natalie Hart, C.S.A., and Kendra Patterson, C.S.A., of LaPadura/Hart/Patterson. Dan Berendsen and Peter Barsocchini (writer of all three High School Musical” movies) are the screenwriters; Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush will return as the executive producers.
Casting will begin soon, and it’s not yet clear if any of the original cast will make appearances. Obviously, they won’t be starring in the new sequel, but a few cameos would be cool!
And speaking of the original cast, they just celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the first movie — that was so exciting that we’re still recovering. And now this! It’s almost too much to handle. Are you excited, HollywoodLifers? Tell us how you feel below.
