It finally happened — Leonardo DiCaprio won his very first Oscar. And if you thought watching him accept the award was good, we have a treat for you…because there’s video of him actually getting the trophy engraved! Check it out here!
Leonardo DiCaprio’s got some jokes! The actor excitedly got his Oscar trophy engraved at the Governors Ball after the 2016 Academy Awards on Feb. 28, and made a hilarious quip about how long it’s taken him to finally win one of these things. You have to check out this amazing video right now!
“Do you do this every year?” Leo asked the trophy engraver, making small talk. “I wouldn’t know.” LOL! The 41-year-old has been nominated for five Oscars before this year, but had shockingly never won until now. Fans have been joking about the Leo Oscar curse for years, but he’s always kept pretty tight-lipped about it, so we totally love that he referenced it in this way while FINALLY accepting his much-deserved award.
Just like he did at the show, Leo kept calm, cool and collected while waiting for his win to be made official with the engraving. Perhaps the person who was most excited when his name was announced, though, was Kate Winslet, his Titanic co-star and longtime best friend. Kate was in tears as her buddy took the stage, and the pair shared an adorable hug afterward. And can we just talk about how amazing it was when they posed on the red carpet together?! Friendship goals, for real.

While accepting his Oscar, Leo obviously thanked everyone who worked on the movie, along with his friends and family who’ve been with him since the beginning, but he used most of his time to bring awareness to an issue he’s super passionate about. “Climate change is real,” he explained. “It’s the most urgent threat facing our species. We need to help around the world.” Amazing.
HollywoodLifers, are you excited Leo won his first Oscar? What do you think of the video of him getting it engraved?
