Daniel Lara became a star overnight, and now he’s even made it onto The Ellen DeGeneres show! The 14-year-old appears on the Feb. 24 episode, and told the talk show host all about what his life has been like since the ‘Damn Daniel’ video, recorded by his buddy, Joshua Holz, went viral. Check it out!
“I went to the mall, I wanted to shop and kind of wanted to see if people would recognize me a little,” Daniel explained. “And I ended up taking maybe 15, 10 photos with people. And the next day I went to a swim meet and I took 30 or 40 photos there. That’s when I realized….this is crazy.” Who would’ve thought that a video montage of a teenager saying, ‘Damn, Daniel!’ about his friend’s outfits would take off like this?! Josh, the voice behind ‘Damn Daniel,’ was with Daniel during the Ellen interview, and he admitted that he totally didn’t plan any of this. “It was just, like, it was just out of nowhere,” he said. “I just came up to Daniel after school and I was just like, ‘I’ll post this on my Snapchat story.’ So I took a video and I was like, ‘Damn Daniel,’ just out of nowhere. And it was like…everyone started to love it. The first clip, with him in the blue Nikes and blue windbreaker, that was the first time [I said it].” Ellen clearly loves ‘Damn Daniel,’ too, because she made a remake of the video with the 14-year-old — and it’s amazing.
Before he was taking 40 pictures at swim meets, Daniel was just a regular teenager, and his friends have dished to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY what he was like. “He is a really nice, laid back guy,” a student at Daniel’s school told us EXCLUSIVELY. “He is on the swim team and water polo team. His friend who made the video, Josh Holz, is a sophomore and a funny guy, he was just being himself in the video.”
