The competition on ‘American Idol’ is getting serious now that we’re down to the Top 14. In just the first few minutes of the episode, 4 faces were given fast passes, but the rest is up to your votes!
American Idol just got real! In the Feb. 24 episode of the 15th and final season, the Top 14 give it their best shot as they perform for judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. The judges gave four lucky contestants fast passes right away, but the rest had to prove their talent once again by performing!
Right away, the judges announce that four talented contestants will be granted fast passes to the Top 10 — no votes needed! The first person that the judges all agreed on was Dalton Rappattoni — a no-brainer. The second unanimous decision was Olivia Rox. Trent Harmon was next, followed by La’Porsha Renae. Congrats!
Now it’s time for the remaining competitors to win America’s hearts and votes. First, Manny Torres performs a rousing cover of “Master Blaster” by Stevie Wonder! It’s a great way to open the show, as Keith mentions, and he really does have star quality. Next up is Gianna Isabella, who goes with “I Put a Spell on You” by Annie Lennox. It’s a beautiful performance…also, hello, she is fifteen. Amazing.
Thomas Stringfellow picks the crowd pleaser “Story Of My Life” by One Direction, but he strips it down and puts his own lovely twist on it, setting the song to an acoustic guitar. Harry critiques his style, earning resounding “boos” from the crowd. Tristan McIntosh gets a better response from the judges with Rascal Flatts‘ “What Hurts The Most” — Keith and JLo (rightfully) call it “beautiful”!
Next, Avalon Young‘s voice is perfection as she performs “Yo (Excuse Me Miss)” by Chris Brown, and it just seems like the melody comes so easily to her. “That was smooth, like butter,” Jen declares. “That was a great performance!” Agreed. Then indie queen Jenn Blosil takes on “True Colours” by Cyndi Lauper. She really is hypnotic!
The adorable and charismatic Lee Jean does Ed Sheeran‘s “Make It Rain”, showing off his smooth, clear bravado. Keith loves that Lee has his own unique style! Then Sonika Vaid does a pitch-perfect cover of “I Surrender” by Celine Dion. She gets a standing ovation from Jen — love it.
Jeneve Rose is from a farm in the middle of nowhere, but she sounds like she’s from, well, somewhere as she croons “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash. She has an unconventional style, so we’ll see if that carries her into the Top 10. Finally, fan favorite Mackenzie Bourg performs an original song called “Roses”, showing off his singer-songwriter talent. Amazing!
