Why did Ben Higgins act all surprised when JoJo’s brothers cornered him during his hometown visit and accused him of ‘brainwashing’ their sister? Has TV ‘reality’ land blurred his perception of reality? No family is going to like a man who’s four-timing their daughter!
Bachelor Ben Higgins, you have to get over feeling “unsettled” after being rightfully confronted about your intentions by JoJo’s two protective brothers. Did you really think that you’d be welcomed into totally open arms by four families who care a whole lot more about their daughters than they do about a stranger like you? A stranger who is getting serious with four different women on national TV in a quest to supposedly find a wife?
There are a multitude of reasons why any family would be skeptical about you — for one, how do they know you are a genuine wife-seeker and not just a fame whore who’s about to break their daughter/sister’s heart? JoJo‘s older brothers, Matt and Ben, are the ones who are behaving normally in this situation. Like normal siblings, they love their sister, and the fact that it’s their little sis makes them even more defensive. They rightfully have their “stranger danger” antennas on from the moment you appear on their doorstep.
When Ben and Matt grill you, Ben H. about your intentions with JoJo, you did what you had to do: waffle. “I don’t know…we’re in a really good place…” Really?? That is NOT a satisfactory answer. Anytime. For any woman who wants any relationship in the off-camera world. And it’s not a reassuring answer for JoJo’s already-dubious brothers. I have to say that I loved that the bros made Ben squirm. While I adore watching both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette like millions of others, it is an INSANE way to find true love!
What regular woman or man who is seriously looking to find a husband or wife would subject themselves to being a contestant on this show? I get why THE Bachelor or Bachelorette would do it. They get to pick from oodles of gorgeous eligibles, desperate to win their hearts. I get it if a contestant just wants to have a laugh or nab some TV exposure. But Ben’s four finalists — JoJo, Caila, Lauren B and Amanda — all seem deadly serious about actually trying to find a life mate on The Bachelor. At this point, they’re all convinced — or they’ve convinced themselves — that Ben is THE ONE.
No wonder JoJo’s brothers accuse Ben of having some strange, seductive power over his bachelorettes. “You brainwash these girls way too much, man. To see my sister like that… she’s obviously starting to have real emotional feelings but I don’t get the same read [from you],” JoJo’s brother Ben confronted Bachelor Ben. Well, JoJo’s brothers are right. It is weird to have one guy lead on four different women. And while it may be fantastic for TV, it’s not the least bit healthy for the heart of their beloved sister. Ben — what’s so odd about that?
You looked upset when you left JoJo’s house and you admitted that you felt “unsettled”. Ben — you need to get out of your Bachelor “bubble” for a few minutes here and there, and accept that JoJo’s brothers behaved in a completely natural way, as did Amanda’s dad, who incisively pointed out that becoming a stepdad to her two young daughters would be a HUGE responsibility. As in, you can’t just go to the gym whenever you want. Remarkably, that one simple point seemed to snap you out of Amanda fantasy world and back to reality. She really was a “full package” that you weren’t ready to take on.
Lauren B and Caila’s dads also refused to jump on the Ben bandwagon. Neither was ready to suspend reality like their lovelorn daughters. Lauren B’s dad pointed out that he and his wife dated for years before taking the big marriage leap. Caila’s father reminded Ben that marriage is a lot of work. And no one’s families could really get their heads around the fact that their girls had maybe had two one-on-one dates with Ben before deciding they were “in love”.
Ben — stop being surprised that you hit some roadblocks with your bachelorette’s families. And while you’re at it, why can’t you articulate WHY you like Lauren B so much? Or JoJo — only that you’re more yourself with her than anyone else. If you seriously want to marry one of these ladies, you better know exactly what you love about them and why they’re compatible with you. Otherwise, maybe you’ve brainwashed yourself as well as the girls.
Hollywoodlifers — do you agree that JoJo’s brothers were right to tell Ben to back off their sister unless he was serious? Let me know.
