Say it ain’t so! The last episode of ‘The X-Files’ revival has finally come, and it ended on a total cliffhanger. This frustrating episode was one of the best of the mini-series, and it left us wanting more! Click through for our recap!
Why you gotta do us like that, Mulder and Scully? The season finale of The X-Files was probably the best of the revival mini-series, but it left so, so much unanswered! As the mini-season came to a close, Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) were battling the end of the world — and the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) was to blame. Did they both make it out alive?
Six weeks after Tad O’Malley (Joel McHale) went missing, he’s back and broadcasting weird conspiracy theories better than ever! This time, he’s got some serious allegations, like that all humans have a little bit of alien DNA. Yeah, Scully knows that, but she doesn’t need the whole world to freak out!
Here’s the thing — if everyone in the world has alien DNA, then they might also be exposed to a global contagion that can compromise literally everyone’s immune systems. A sneeze, a paper cut — dead. And now Scully and Agent Einstein (Lauren Ambrose) are attempting to figure out what’s happening, all with Mulder still AWOL.
Scully’s friend Agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) is back in the picture, and she lets her in on a major secret. The Cigarette Smoking Man is alive and kicking, and he’s responsible for the end of the world. While we all thought he died at the end of the original series, he was just incredibly burned. His government group, which has covered up some of the biggest alien incidents in history, received technology in the 1950s that could bring about this global catastrophe. And they used it by making the smallpox vaccine!
Since the Cigarette Smoking Man holds the key to the fate of humanity, there are three people who are saved from the end of days: Scully, with her alien DNA, Monica, and Mulder — if he wants it. Mulder obviously doesn’t trust him, and after a lengthy fight with his henchmen, tells him that he’d rather die than be on his side.
He maybe should have thought twice about that, because he immediately starts dying of some unknown illness! Though Agent Miller (Robbie Amell) tries valiantly to save him, only Scully can help. True love! As she rushes toward him, a beam of light shines down on her…from a UFO. Is Scully getting abducted again. We don’t know, because that’s how the series ends! Seriously! No Scully and Mulder love scene, and no reunion with their son, William. Does this mean a full season, or maybe a movie is coming?
