Shade alert! Fans went crazy after Demi Lovato tweeted a message seemingly dissing Taylor Swift for donating $250,000 to Kesha, and the singer immediately took to social media to defend herself. But she definitely didn’t apologize for what she said!
Demi Lovato, 23, may have just started World War III with Taylor Swift’s fans. After the 26-year-old donated $250,000 to help Kesha with her legal troubles, Demi threw some subtle shade on Twitter, then defended her tweet when Swifties started bashing her. Read her angry rant and find out why she doesn’t think Taylor is doing enough right here!
“Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed,” Demi tweeted after it was revealed that Taylor had given Kesha $250,000 to “help with any of her financial needs during this trying time.” Obviously, fans immediately put two and two together that this tweet was directed at Tay, and Demi didn’t take long before explaining herself in an Instagram comment.
“How the f**k am I making this about myself? At least I’m talking about it,” she wrote. “Not everyone has 250k to just give to people. Would love to but I didn’t grow up with money and def haven’t made as much as her. At least I speak up about s**t that’s uncomfortable to talk about rather than trying to be politically correct 24/7. There’s no ‘rivalry’ I just give more fu**s than other people and would rather start dialogue ABOUT WOMEN COMING FORWARD ABOUT BEING RAPED than throw money at one person. I didn’t shade Taylor. If you take it that way than fine. I’m just tired of seeing women use ‘women empowerment’ and ‘feminism’ to further brands without actually being the ones that have the uncomfortable conversations. I get shade and I don’t give a f**k because someone has to be the one to take it. At least I’m getting my hands dirty.”
WHOA! Demi definitely didn’t hold back, huh?! The 23-year-old has been tweeting her support for Kesha since a judge ruled that she’d have to stick out her contract with Sony — the same company where her longtime producer, Dr. Luke, who she claimed drugged and raped her when she was just 18, still works. Kesha hasn’t put out any new music since suing Dr. Luke in 2014, and although Sony has promised to pair her with other producers, her attorney argued that that also means they won’t put any promotional effort behind her work, since Dr. Luke has been a longtime moneymaker for the company. So sad.
Do you think Demi was dissing Taylor, HollywoodLifers?! What do you think of her response on Instagram?
