Whoa, Demi Lovato is getting real! After dissing Taylor Swift’s $250K donation to support Kesha through her court battle with Dr. Luke, Demi stood her ground with another message. While Demi’s not trying to start anything with Taylor, Demi wants fans to know she gives more ‘f***s’!
Demi Lovato, 23, isn’t backing down on her tweet that threw shade at Taylor Swift! When news broke that Taylor, 26, had donated $250,000 to Kesha, 28, to help with her legal troubles, Demi immediately voiced her angry opinion on Twitter that Taylor’s money wasn’t as helpful as speaking up. Swifties quickly attacked Demi for her rant, but she had no problem defending it — and declaring that she cares more about Kesha!
“How the f**k am I making it about myself?” she wrote in an Instagram comment. “Not everyone has 250k to just give to people. Would love to but I didn’t grow up with money and def haven’t made as much as her. At least I speak up about s**t that’s uncomfortable to talk about rather than trying to be politically correct 24/7.”
Demi’s comment was in response to a post by Instagram user proudofswift, who claimed that Demi took the attention off the real issue of Kesha’s court battle and made the situation about starting a new feud with Taylor. In a second comment, Demi insisted that was certainly not the case. “There’s no ‘rivalry’ I just give more fucks than other people and would rather start a dialogue ABOUT WOMEN COMING FORWARD ABOUT BEING RAPED than throw money at one person.”
Although Demi says she meant no harm, the tweet that started the supposed “rivalry” did seem a little hostile. “Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed,” she wrote. But when the Insta user responded to Demi’s defense, telling her she shaded Taylor, Demi put her foot down once and for all.
“I didn’t shade Taylor. If you take it that way than fine,” Demi said. “I’m just tired of seeing women use ‘women empowerment’ and ‘feminism’ to further brands without actually being the ones that have the uncomfortable conversations. I get shade and I don’t give a f**k because someone has to be the one to take it. At least I’m getting my hands dirty.”
Before Taylor donated, Demi showed her support for Kesha in a number of tweets after a judge declared that the “Tik Tok” singer had to complete her contract to make six more albums with Sony Music, despite the fact that her producer, Dr. Luke — who she claimed drugged and raped her when she was 18 — still works there. The legal battle has put a halt on Kesha’s career and taken a toll on her emotions, so the Feb. 21 ruling was a devastating blow. Now that Demi has made it known that she isn’t trying to start anything with Taylor over Kesha’s troubles, hopefully the two of them can work together to help get Kesha the justice she is looking for.
