All hail Charlotte, the queen Diva of the WWE Universe! Charlotte put her Divas Championship on the line against Brie Bella at ‘WWE Fastlane’ on Feb. 21. Brie came within a hair of winning the title in a hard-hitting match, but it was Charlotte who walked out the Divas champion!
It was Brie Mode against the “genetically superior” diva, as Charlotte, 29, — the daughter of Ric Flair, 66 — defended her Divas title against Brie Bella, 32, at WWE Fastlane. Though Brie channeled her husband, Daniel Bryan, 34, to help her in this match, but it wasn’t enough for her to dethrone the champ!
The 14,000 fans at the Quicken Loans arena in Cleveland, Ohio were on the edge of their seats during this intense clash. The winner of the Feb. 21 match would walk away with the Divas championship, but after Charlotte talked trash about Brie’s family, this fight turned incredibly personal! They exchanged blows and insults, as Charlotte mocked Daniel after Brie made fun of the champ’s father and his signature “Woo” catchphrase!
It wasn’t an insult that secured victory for Charlotte – it was her “Figure Eight” submission move. Brie injured her left leg after nailing a missile dropkick. Brie tried applying Daniel’s “Yes Lock” and a Single Leg Crab move, but it wasn’t enough. Charlotte capitalized, slapped on her own submission move and walked out with her championship!
Win, lose or draw, this match was incredible personal to Brie. Her sister, Nikki Bella, 32, is recovering from neck surgery, while Brie’s husband, Daniel Bryan, announced his retirement from the ring on Feb. 8. In an emotional tweet hours before her match, Brie said “these faces will give me strength tonight. I’ll do it for them, my family.” With Brie telling Good Morning America that she soon will follow Daniel and “hang up [her] boots,” according to WWE, this match may have been Brie’s last shot at Diva gold.

Daniel had to give up wrestling due to medical reasons associated with multiple concussions. The man who started the “Yes! Movement” was a four-time WWE World champ, and his retirement left fans and fellow wrestlers completely shocked. Though Bryan’s retirement speech was full of tears and sadness, he ended it on a positive note. “My wife and I want to start having kids soon,” he said, saying he was looking forward to his new adventure as a father.
Family is also important to Charlotte, who is following in the footsteps of her legendary father, Ric Flair. She seems to be a chip off the old block, as she defeated Becky Lynch, 29, at the Royal Rumble to retain her Divas championship. After beating Brie at Fastlane, can any Diva take down Charlotte?
Are you glad Charlotte won, HollywoodLifers? Who do you think will challenge Charlotte for the Divas title at WrestleMania?
