1.NASCAR runs in the family.
Dale comes from a family that has motor racing in their blood. His father, Dale Earnhardt Sr. was a NASCAR Hall of Famer, winning 7 Winston Championships. But he tragically lost his life during a race on Feb. 18, 2001 after crashing at the Daytona 500 on the race’s final lap. Dale’s grandad Ralph Earnhardt was also a NASCAR driver.
2. His success at Daytona has earned him a unique nickname.
Having won the Daytona 500 twice — in 2004 and 2014 — Dale has been given the unique nickname the Pied Piper of Daytona. His popularity amongst his peers is unparalleled and he was also named Most Popular Driver 12 times — from 2003 to 2014. His success is said to have earned him an estimated fortune of $300 million.
3. He drives the number 88 for Chevrolet.
If you want to look out for him on the track, Dale will be driving the number 88 Chevrolet car for Hendrick Motorsports in the Sprint Cup Series. He previously drove for Dale Earnhardt, Inc., which was his father’s team.
4. Dale’s appeared in movies and video games as himself.
Being one of the most popular drivers in the world has it perks. Dale’s been recognized in popular culture through film, music and in video games. His voice featured on Scarface: The World Is Yours, as well as Disney Pixar movie Cars in which he played the number 8 car. named Junior. There was even a band named after him called Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.!
5. He’s engaged and wants kids!
Dale got engaged to longtime girlfriend Amy Reimann back in June 2015, and he’s already said that he wants to have kids. “Of course, I mean, you want to have children,” he told Fox Sports. “I think the greatest accomplishment in life is to be able to raise a child. That would be awesome. I have felt that way for a long time, but it’s just a timing thing. You have to get married first and find that person that you want to spend the rest of your life with.”
