Our hearts go out to the VH1 family after the devastating loss of one of their biggest and brightest stars, Angela “Big Ang” Raiola on Feb. 18. The Mob Wives star, 55, had been valiantly fighting for her life after being diagnosed with stage 4 brain and lung cancer in Dec. 2015. Now, the network is honoring her memory with a heartfelt statement, remembering her as vibrant, “one-of-a-kind” woman. See their full touching tribute to her below.
In the hours after Big Ang’s passing, VH1 has issued an official statement regarding their beloved star, expressing their deepest sorrows over the tragic loss. “We are all heartbroken about the passing of our ‘Big Ang.’ Angela Raiola was an incredibly strong, one-of-a-kind woman who taught us all to enjoy life to the fullest,” the network told People in a statement. “We send our deepest sympathies to Angela’s family and ask that her fans keep them in their thoughts as well.”
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, the 55-year-old reality star passed away surrounded by her closest friends and family in the early morning hours on Feb. 18. At the time of her death, Mob Wives creator and close friend, Jennifer Graziano, spoke to HollywoodLife.com, revealing how truly “heartbroken” her family was after her sudden passing.
“I am saddened to say that At 3:01 am Ang lost her battle with cancer,” Jennifer told us. “She passed peacefully surrounded by friends and family. My heart is broken for her whole family – especially her children and grandchildren and I will never forget her. Her presence brought sheer happiness to anyone that was around her and I am honored to have called her a friend. Please respect her family’s privacy at this time as they mourn the loss of such an amazing woman.”
In the hours after her death, a number of Big Ang’s Mob Wives co-stars have also taken to social media to honor their dear friend with heartfelt messages. In a statement issued EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com, Carla Facciolo remembered the reality star by saying, “All I can say is she was bigger than life and I will truly miss her! All our hearts are broken but I know she will rule the gates of heaven the Big Ang way. May she rest in peace.”
Big Ang’s cancer battle began back in March 2015 after doctors found a lemon-sized tumor in her throat, causing her to undergo numerous surgeries from April through June. Although the cancer went away briefly, the VH1 star learned in December that it had developed into Stage 4 brain and lung cancer, which then spread rapidly, ultimately leading to her sad, sad death. Big Ang is survived by her husband Neil Murphy, two children and six grandchildren.
Our hearts continue to go out to Big Ang’s loved ones at this very difficult time.
