Oh, how sorely it was missed. Champions League soccer returns, and it’s the knockout stages where all the giants of the european game meet. Chelsea squares off against France’s best team Paris St. Germain over two legs in a game packed full of the world’s best soccer stars. It’ll be a closely contested game you just have to see!
During their domestic campaign Chelsea has really struggled in the Premier League and languish in the bottom of the standings, but in the Champions League they’ve been a different sort of opposition. With 4 wins, a draw and just one loss, they qualified for the second round with ease finishing top of their group.
Their opponents Paris St. Germain have blitzed their own championship. They lead Ligue 1 by a staggering 24 points, but in the Champions League they finished second in their group to Real Madrid. But that’s no slight, given Real has the best record in the CL this season and they had to share a group with the Spanish team.
Chelsea’s best chances of silverware this season might be in the Champions League, a competition they have won once before. With Diego Costa up top, they have a striker capable of upsetting defenses with his antagonistic style.
But PSG have their own sulky forward in the powerful Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Although he turned 34 this season, the 6’4″ Swedish star is still scoring goals for fun. His record of 27 goals in 31 games in all competitions makes him still one of the most-feared players in the game today.
It promises to be a cagey affair, with both teams aiming to keep things tight in the first leg before they return to France for the second leg.
