Get ready Kendrick Lamar fans — the rapper’s performance at the 2016 Grammy Awards is going to be BIG. Beyond just singing one of his songs, Kendrick is planning a special tribute to Black Lives Matter at the show, HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned. Get the scoop here!
Kendrick Lamar, 28, is putting a WHOLE lot of thought into his Grammy Awards performance, and he’s using his major platform to honor a cause that hits close to home for him. Get ready for Kendrick to put on one epic show, but also keep an eye out for the references to the Black Lives Matter movement during his performance.
“He’s doing a crazy, awesome sort of Black Lives Matter-themed performance where he’s in a jail cell for part of it,” an insider tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “It’s very elaborate and should have people talking.” We can imagine a ton of creativity went into this one, and we can’t see what happens during the show on Feb. 15.
Besides just taking the stage to sing, it’s likely the 28-year-old will be up at the podium on multiple other occasions — he’s nominated for a whopping 11 awards, more than anyone else by a landslide, and we’ll be shocked if he doesn’t take home at least one. This has clearly been a huge year for Kendrick, and we can’t wait to see it pay off for him on music’s biggest night!
Kendrick paying tribute to Black Lives Matter comes on the heels of Beyonce’s epic Super Bowl performance, for which she was widely regarded, but also criticized, for supporting the movement against violence against black people. While many praised her for the rendition of her new song “Formation,” some, like Rudy Giuliani, were of the opinion that a football game was no place for her to make a political statement. Let’s see if Kendrick gets the same responses from haters…
