Simmer down, ya’ll! Beyonce’s ‘Formation’ video is controversial, but it’s nothing to get your panties in a bunch over. ‘Saturday Night Live’ even mocked the public’s outrage in a hilarious sketch, which was featured on the Feb. 13 episode. Watch it here!
Saturday Night Live took on Beyonce‘s controversial “Formation” in a funny sketch about “The Day Beyonce Turned Black.” Yes, it’s true. One week after the singer released the much-talked about music video, the Feb. 13 episode of SNL brilliantly mocked the public outrage.
In a trailer for a fake movie, titled The Day Beyonce Turned Black, white people become alarmed when they learn by the release of “Formation” that Beyonce is, indeed, black. “For white people, it was just another great week. They never saw it coming. They had no warning. Then, the day before the Super Bowl, it happened,” the narrator says. Then, a number of news clips flash across the screen, claiming, “Beyonce embraces her black heritage.” And, of course, panic ensues — at least, for white people, that is.
“Guys, I don’t understand this new song,” one woman says. “Hot sauce in my bag. Swag?” another man says. “What does this song mean?”
“We have to leave America! Beyonce is black,” another woman screams.
This hilarious sketch comes one week after Beyonce’s music video and Super Bowl performance were both criticized for having a politically charged message. “I thought it was really outrageous that she used [the Super Bowl] as a platform to attack police officers, the people who protect her and protect us and keep us alive,” former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani said on Fox & Friends February 8.
