Barry Manilow knows his fans can’t smile without him on stage and they’ll definitely be heartbroken if he doesn’t attend the Grammy Awards on Feb. 215. However, Barry’s recovering from a medical emergency. Does he still plan to make the awards show?
Fans are sending their thoughts and prayers out to Barry Manilow, as the 72-year-old music icon had to be rushed to a hospital following a concert in Memphis on Feb 10. With the “Can’t Smile Without You” singer canceling tour dates following this latest health scare, will he be healthy enough to attend the 2016 Grammys?
Sorry, Fanilows, but it looks like he might sit out the Feb. 15 ceremony. “At this time, it is unclear if Manilow will be able to attend the Grammy awards,” according to a statement posted to his official Facebook account on Feb. 11. Barry is nominated for his 15th Grammy award — his album, My Dream Duets, is up for the Best Traditional Pop Vocal award.
Barry underwent emergency oral surgery on Feb. 8, but he felt well enough to sing and perform. Sadly, he started to experience complications during the Feb. 10 concert in Tennessee and quickly flew to a medical facility in Los Angeles after the show. Thankfully, Barry is okay after this health crisis!
“Barry is out of surgery and doing well,” his rep, Victoria Varela, tells HollywoodLife.com. “His doctors report that the surgery was successful and they expect no further complications. For the next forty-eight hours, Manilow has been instructed not to talk, sing, or rap.”
The singer who made “Mandy” a number 1 hit in 1974 also let his Fanilows know he was fine. Barry tweeted an update on his condition while apologizing for canceling the Highland Heights and Nashville dates on his One Last Time – One Last Tour. Fanilows were also given another fright in January when a report claimed Barry was taken to a hospital by helicopter following a heart attack. However, everyone breathed a sigh of relief when Barry’s rep toldHollywoodLife.com, “Mr. Manilow was not airlifted to Cedars with a heart attack.” The truth is that Barry had an “outpatient procedure for his hip in Burbank” and that “his heart is in great shape.” Though Barry won’t be rapping for the next two days, hopefully he’s in good enough health to make it to the Feb. 15 event.
