Grab a box of Kleenex because you’re going to need it. Never before seen clips from the famous 1993 hit film, show Robin Williams trying to be there for his three kids and his wife, Miranda [Sally Fields] is having none of it. It’s heartbreaking yet wonderful to see more of the late comedienne.
It’s been a year and half since his death and we all miss Robin Williams. Seeing these clips reminds us what an amazing actor he was and why we love Mrs. Doubtfire. In these newly released clips, Robin shows up to his daughter’s spelling bee late, just as she is going up to the podium. Robin’s character, Daniel Hillard gets into an argument with his soon-to-be ex-wife, Miranda Hillard, played by Sally Fields, in front of the entire auditorium and it’s heart-wrenching.
Robin walks in and makes eye contact with his daughter but soon makes his way up the aisle to confront his ex about why she didn’t save a seat for him. He begins to argue with her at the exact moment that his daughter is on stage competing in the spelling bee. It’s in that moment that you realize that Robin and Sally are too wrapped up in themselves to even begin to be the best possible parents for their kids and a lot of divorced parents can most likely relate to this scene.
After she loses the spelling bee, they walk outside and Robin tells her:”It’s a joy being your father. I don’t have to pretend to be your father. I may act like a fool, but I am your father.” Wow, can we say tearjerker?! The next scene shows Sally and Robin arguing in their foyer while their children are upstairs listening to them tear each other apart. It’s so devastating, considering the lasting effects on the kids are detrimental. You just have to watch these clips and tell us what you think.
