Are Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio getting married already or what?! The actress admits she’s pretty certain her co-star and pal is FINALLY going to win an Academy Award this year and, despite the diversity controversy surrounding the show, she’s planning on attending just to support him. Awww!
The only person who may be more excited for Leonardo DiCaprio, 41, to win his first Oscar than Leo himself is Kate Winslet. The 30-year-old has been supporting her Titanic co-star all awards season long, and is totally confident that this is his years to take home that gold statue! That’s why she’s attending the Academy Awards…even if she may not agree with the lack of diversity at this year’s show.
A major controversy has come out of the Oscar nominations, with basically all the candidates up for awards this year being white. Stars like Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith have already boycotted the show, and even though Kate totally understands these issues, don’t be expecting her to do the same.
“To be honest with you it has been such an extraordinary year for women I’d feel like I was letting my side down if I didn’t go,'” she said at the premiere of her upcoming movie Triple 9. “And also I feel very strongly that it may possibly be Leo’s year, and he is my closest friend in the world and I just couldn’t imagine not being there to support him. And I think those are reasons enough, really, to show my face.”
This is Kate’s 7th nomination at the Academy Awards — she’s up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Steve Jobs — and she won for Best Actress in 2009. Meanwhile, 2016 marks the 6th time Leo has been nominated, and he’s shockingly NEVER won. But after his incredible performance in The Revenant…this has to be his year…right? And whatever DOES happen, we can’t wait to see another Kate and Leo reunion!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Leo is going to win the Oscar?
